PORTLAND, Ore. - The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) announced today that TSA Pre✓® enrollment will be available for two weeks beginning Monday, July 25 at Portland International Airport (PDX).
TSA Pre✓® is a Trusted Traveler program that allows flyers to leave on their shoes, light outerwear and belt and keep their laptop in its case and 3-1-1 compliant liquids/gels in a carry-on bag. Ten airlines that serve PDX including Air Canada, Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Hawaiian Airlines JetBlue Airways Southwest Airlines Sun Country Airlines, United Airlines and Virgin America participate in TSA Pre✓®. A passenger must be flying on a participating airline in order to be eligible to use the TSA Pre✓® lane.
Enrollment at the on-airport location will be offered Monday, July 25 - Friday, August 5. The hours of operation on Monday, Wednesday and Friday are 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.; on Tuesday and Thursday, the hours of operation are 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. This temporary application center is located pre-security at the south end of the baggage claim area, near Carousel Two.
Travelers who are U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents can begin the process by pre-applying online at universalenroll.dhs.gov. Click on the words, “Apply Now” and follow the prompts to set up an appointment. Walk-ins are accepted, but will be enrolled on a first-come, first-serve basis around scheduled appointments.
More information on the application process is available at tsa.gov. Please note that applicants must bring a current U.S. passport or a driver’s license and certified copy of a birth certificate.
Applicants are required to make an in-person visit to the application center to verify citizenship or immigration status, as well as to provide fingerprints. There is a nonrefundable application processing fee of $85.
Once approved, passengers will receive a Known Traveler Number (KTN) making them eligible to utilize TSA Pre✓® lanes on a consistent basis at security checkpoints at airports nationwide. Travelers are encouraged to save their KTN in their frequent flyer profiles with the airlines. Children 12 and under are permitted to use the TSA Pre✓® lane when traveling with a TSA Pre✓®- eligible parent or guardian.
All members of the U.S. Armed Forces, including those serving in the Reserves and National Guard, are eligible for expedited screening without enrolling in TSA Pre✓®. They do not need to be in uniform and they can use it while on personal or official travel.
Members of the Armed Forces should use their 10-digit Department of Defense number located on the back of their Common Access Card as their KTN when making flight registration. Eligible individuals should also update their Defense Travel System profile for official travel.
More than 3 million people have enrolled nationwide in TSA Pre✓® since it was first offered in December 2013. Nationwide, an average of 2.1 million passengers are screened through airport security checkpoints every day. TSA projects this summer will be the busiest on record with at least 2.2 million passengers screened everyday now through the end of August.
Enrolling as a Trusted Traveler allows passengers to expedite their screening process and TSA officers are better able to focus their efforts on passengers who present an unknown risk to aviation security. Travelers are encouraged to apply to TSA Pre✓® so they can enjoy expedited screening when departing from a U.S. airport on a participating air carrier.
As always, TSA continues to incorporate random and unpredictable security measures both seen and unseen throughout the airport. All travelers will be screened, and no individual will be guaranteed expedited screening.
There are three permanent application centers in the Portland-Vancouver area. The name of the business that offers the application services on behalf of TSA is IdentoGo. The locations and hours are listed below.
