TSA announces passenger screening numbers for 2018 Derby travel at SDF

Local Press Release
Wednesday, May 9, 2018

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Transportation Security Administration officers working at the Louisville International Airport (SDF) checkpoint screened 11,099 passengers Sunday, May 6.

Travelers returning from the 2018 Kentucky Derby contributed to the highest volume at SDF in more than five years, when we screened 11,393 the day after the 2012 races. The single-day record for passengers screened at Louisville International Airport is 12,893, the Sunday following the 2008 Kentucky Derby.

With prior planning and support of our airport and airline partners, TSA was able to work efficiently throughout the day, which saw nearly double Louisville International Airport’s daily average volume. The checkpoint saw a temporary peak wait time of only 17 minutes for standard screening lanes, and wait times remained ten minutes or less for TSA Pre✓® passengers.

As we move toward Memorial Day weekend and the start of summer travel season, passenger volumes will continue to be heavy. TSA strongly recommends travelers arrive at least two hours prior to their scheduled departure times to ensure adequate time for ticketing, checking baggage and security screening.
