PORTLAND, Ore. – The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is currently recruiting TSA officers to work at Portland International Airport (PDX).

“TSA plays a critical role in securing our nation’s transportation system and we are looking to add new members to our dynamic team at PDX to help us carry out our important responsibilities,” said Steven Taber, Federal Security Director for the state of Oregon. “We encourage anyone who is looking to start or continue their federal career in a meaningful and fast-paced environment to join our team at TSA.”

In order to be considered for employment, applicants must be at least 18 years or older; a U.S. citizen; and have a high school diploma, GED or equivalent certificate. Begin the application process online or call (877) 872-7990.

Starting pay for TSOs at PDX is $16.91 per hour, with opportunities for pay increases after six months. This is a great federal employment opportunity for recent high school or college graduates who are looking for a career with growth potential.

During the hiring process, applicants will take a computer-based aptitude test, participate in a structured interview and undergo drug screening and a medical exam. Applicants will also undergo a pre-hire background investigation.

Some of the benefits of working for the federal government include paid training, annual and sick leave, health care plans for full and part-time employees and a generous retirement plan.

TSA is projecting that the upcoming summer travel season will be the busiest on record. On an average day, TSOs screen approximately 2.2 million departing passengers and crew nationwide. During the summer months, that number will swell to approximately 2.7 million travelers a day. At PDX, TSOs screen an average of 25,000 departing travelers a day. In the summer months, that number can increase by nearly 30% to approximately 33,000 travelers per day.

In 2018, several publications including Black EOE Journal, Hispanic Network Magazine, Professional Woman’s Magazine and U.S. Veterans Magazine ranked TSA as one of the nation’s Best of the Best Government and Law Enforcement Agencies. Also in 2018, Travel + Leisure recognized PDX as America’s best airport for the sixth consecutive time.
