BLOOMINGTON, Minn. - The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is hosting a one-day recruitment event Saturday, May 18 to hire Transportation Security Officers (TSOs) to work at Minneapolis - St. Paul International Airport (MSP). Starting pay is $20.44 per hour.

The recruiting session will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 2001 Killebrew Drive, Suite 400 in Bloomington, Minn. Interested individuals are invited to begin the application and hiring process at the recruitment session.

In order to be considered for employment, applicants must at least 18 years or older, be a U.S. citizen and are required to have two valid forms of state or federal identification. Examples of acceptable forms of identification are a driver license, military ID card, passport or a certified copy of a birth certificate.

“This is a prime opportunity for qualified men and women to start a rewarding career securing our nation’s transportation system,” said John Bell, Assistant Federal Security Director of Screening at MSP. “TSA encourages those who are interested in a federal career to join the team at MSP.”

During the information session, TSA officials will discuss the duties of a TSO and the application process. Applicants will be briefed on the benefits of working for the federal government including paid training, annual and sick leave, health care plans for full- and part-time employees and a 401k retirement and pension plan. TSOs are also eligible for transit benefits for the Metro transit rail or bus lines and uniform allowances.

After the information sessions, those who are interested in pursuing employment with TSA may be asked to take a computer-based aptitude test, participate in a structured interview and leave with a medical kit for drug screening and a medical exam (at no cost to the applicant), which will be scheduled at a later date. Applicants will also undergo a pre-hire background investigation.

Applicants can apply for the positions on-site at the recruitment event. They can also begin the on-line application for a  full-time TSO position or part-time TSO position. Interested individuals may also call Kristen Anetipa at (952) 229-3866 for any questions or to learn more about starting a career with the federal government.

TSA is projecting that the upcoming summer travel season will be the busiest on record. On an average day, TSOs screen approximately 2.2 million departing passengers and crew nationwide. During the summer months, that number will swell to approximately 2.7 million travelers a day. At MSP, TSOs screen an average of 35,000 departing travelers a day. In the summer months, that number can increase by more than 17% to approximately 41,000 travelers per day.

In 2019, the Airports Council International named MSP the best airport in the nation in its size category. This was the third year in a row MSP received such a high honor.
