ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is hiring Transportation Security Officers (TSOs) to work at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport (ANC) and at airports statewide. There are currently full- and part-time positions available and the starting salary ranges from $18.99 per hour in Anchorage to a high of $30.35 in other locations in Alaska. TSA is looking to fill 80 positions at ANC.
As an incentive, TSA will pay newly-hired TSOs $500 upon starting with the agency and $500 after one year of service with TSA. To qualify for the recruitment incentive, the employee must come onboard with TSA between now and September 30, 2021.
To accelerate the hiring process, TSA is hosting a two-day recruitment event Tuesday, June 15 and Wednesday, June 16. It will take place at the Sheraton Anchorage Hotel & Spa, 401 East 6th Avenue in Anchorage. The hours are 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days and no appointment is necessary.
“This hiring event will provide interested applicants the information and resources to come onboard with TSA as the agency continues to prepare for a busy summer travel season. Alaska is a premiere travel destination and we would like to add to our team of security professionals as we continue to carry out our important mission,” said TSA Federal Security Director for Alaska Peter Duffy. “Working for TSA is an excellent opportunity to begin or continue your federal career. Come see what TSA has to offer.”
Based on anticipated seasonal travel trends in the months ahead and the fact that the COVID-19 vaccination is available to the general public, TSA launched local and national efforts to recruit new employees in support of security screening operations. Those efforts are ongoing.
TSOs in Alaska are federal employees. Benefits include paid training, annual and sick leave, health care plans for full- and part-time employees and a generous retirement plan. TSOs are eligible for up to $5,000 per year in college tuition reimbursement. TSA does not prorate benefits for part-time workers, and veteran’s preference is not required to join the agency.
After six months, TSOs are eligible for pay increases and those who work early mornings, evenings and Sundays receive a shift differential. Overtime opportunities, which are paid at time and a half, are frequently available. TSA is committed to a diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environment and encourages individuals of all backgrounds to apply.
