WASHINGTON – The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) hosted a ceremony today to recognize veterans within the TSA workforce ahead of the Veterans Day federal holiday on Nov. 11.

The ceremony’s theme was “Honor,” as an acknowledgement of a core value within each of our nation’s military components. The theme is also a testament to the concept of service to our nation, and as gratitude for those who continue to serve the TSA mission.

“Veterans are an important part of the TSA workforce, making up nearly 20% of the workforce, and this holiday serves as an inspiring reminder of what can be achieved through leadership and commitment to duty,” TSA Administrator David Pekoske said. “I celebrate TSA’s diverse workforce, which continues to meet the mission of protecting the nation’s transportation systems.”

The special ceremony was held at TSA’s headquarters in Springfield, Va., and included remarks by Pekoske and the event’s keynote speaker, TSA Assistant Administrator for Contracting & Procurement Bill Weinberg. The Washington Dulles International Airport Color Guard conducted the ceremonial presentation of Colors.

In 2021, TSA made Monster and Military.com’s list of the 10 best employers and companies that hire veterans. TSA remains committed to hiring military veterans, including those with disabilities. As TSA continues to ramp up hiring, military veterans represent a critical pool of candidates, many of whom exemplify leadership and will ultimately continue to serve and protect their country while working for TSA.

Each year on Nov. 11, our nation pauses to salute the men and women who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. Initially known as Armistice Day, Veterans Day was established to honor the “eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month” of 1918 that signaled the end of World War I.

A recording of the special ceremony may be found on TSA’s YouTube page.
