MILWAUKEE —  Milwaukee Mitchell International Aiport (MKE) made it into the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) annual Top 10 List of most unusual items found at security checkpoints nationwide in 2022. TSA released the list in an online video it posted on the agency’s YouTube account.

What was the item from the airport that ranked as #9 on the Top 10 List? Read on . . .

The incident occurred July 29, 2022, when a Transportation Security Officer identified an image on the X-Ray of an item that appeared to be a grenade. The passenger was asked to explain and informed officers that he had purchased a replica grenade for his son while at the Oshkosh Air Show. Milwaukee County Sheriff Deputies confirmed the item was indeed an inert grenade, confiscated it, and cited the passenger for presenting a weapon to a checkpoint.

The traveler should have downloaded the myTSA app or visited the What Can I Bring? Feature on tsa.gov, which would have advised him that replicas of explosives, such as hand grenades, are prohibited in both checked and carry-on baggage.
